How is spring break already winding down to a
close? This was a precious time of rest,
relaxation & reconnecting with Coach Husband over the past week.
We left on Tuesday for a quick getaway to
Northwest Arkansas and the Ozark Mountains.
Obviously, the drive from Texas was not “quick” but once we arrived it
was absolutely worth the trip! I had
searched all over the area for a cabin that was pet-friendly and found a
picturesque cabin situated up in the mountains!
Coach will attest that I am very apprehensive about renting hotels or
the like. Needless to say I was
pleasantly surprised at our lodging for the week. The cabin was impeccably clean and they even
had a welcome bag of Milkbones for Dixie May!
How thoughtful!

Dixie loved every minute of our getaway!

The first day of our getaway we spent hiking
around Lake Leatherwood! In typical
Emily fashion I hiked in Kate Spade sunnies, Urban Decay cc cream &
flat-ironed hair. { Totally not an “outdoorsy” person y’all. } We had a BLAST! Dixie was allowed off-leash and loved being
able to explore the trail, woods & swim around in the creeks and streams
that we crossed over. Coach and I were
able to chat about dreams, plans and aspirations as we hiked the five-mile
trail around the lake. God’s handiwork
was on full display and we loved the time together.

When we returned to the cabin we both curled
up with books on the front porch in rocking chairs and just enjoyed the feeling
of not having a to-do list! I have not
been that relaxed in an incredibly long time.

Day two we went into Fayetteville to lunch
with Coach’s college football academic advisor and his precious wife! It was so fun to catch up with Flint &
Rebekah. We were also able to experience
Bliss Cupcakes for the first time! Flint
& Rebekah own this chain of cupcake stores in Arkansas and I have been
wanting to try the delectable cupcakes forever!
My wish was granted Thursday afternoon.
I indulged in a Granny’s Apple Cake cupcake and Coach had a Peanut
Butter Butterfinger Cupcake. We even
brought a “pup-cake” back to Dixie, which was devoured in about five seconds
flat. If you find yourself in Northwest
Arkansas for sure swing by Bliss, your taste buds will thank you.

Thursday afternoon found us once again on the
front porch indulging in pleasure reading.
We ended the night with a fire in the fireplace, a very competitive game
of SkipBo & classic John Wayne westerns.
Friday morning we started the trek back home
rejuvenated & refreshed to finish the school year strong. Coach & I agreed we are so glad we did
not attempt a “glamorous” spring break trip to the beach or NYC. The low-key relaxation was just what the
doctor ordered. We have already started
thinking of when we can head back for round two. Since Duke was finishing up his training
while we were gone we definitely want to go again with both of the dogs!
If you are blessed enough for a spring break
did you indulge in low-key time away, a
stay-cation or did you go big?
P.S.
Duke came home from training today!
This is one happy dog mom y’all.
He is a completely different dog and we are so grateful to the fabulous
team at Lonestar Dog Trainer that worked so tirelessly to help Duke overcome
his fears!

welcome home Duke McLane! |
